The first episode of Kutuzov's Headquarters: Leaders of Large-Scale Projects was released. The discussion focused on megaproject management, investment efficiency, and protecting capital value throughout the project life cycle.
29.05.2026
As part of the discussion, Mikhail Daich, an investment project manager with more than 20 years of experience in the implementation of complex industrial, infrastructure and development assets, and Alexander Kutuzov, PME (PM Excellence), discussed the key problem of the modern project industry: the main losses are formed long before entering the construction site - at the stages of concept, feasibility study, basic engineering, contract strategy and building the organizational model of the project.
The key thesis of Ether is that saving at the early stage of a project almost always becomes the most expensive decision for an investor. It is the stages of feasibility study, basic engineering and the formation of a strong, stable project team that determine the future manageability of the project, the feasibility of the schedule, the sustainability of supplies, the risk structure and the investment efficiency of the asset.
The discussion centered on:
- the role of the project management model and distribution of powers;
- risks of manual control and illusion of control;
- integrated master schedule as the main project management model;
- synchronization of design, procurement, logistics and construction work;
- the impact of changes and delays on project profitability and cost of capital;
- digitalization as a tool for monitoring investment efficiency, and not just process automation.
The speakers separately noted that with the high cost of financing, time becomes a full-fledged financial category: any delay in the project directly affects the cost of capital, liquidity, predictability of cash flows and the final cost of the asset for the investor.
Mikhail Daich's practical experience in managing project portfolios worth over $4 billion, creating project offices and digital control centers, as well as implementing complex industrial and infrastructure projects allowed us to move the discussion from theory to the plane of strategic decisions at the level of owners, investors and boards of directors.
