Large-Scale Projects Academy: December 5, Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy — Module 1. Design and Planning (Definition Stage)
September 25, 2026

On December 5, PM Excellence will hold the first in-person session of the Large-Scale Projects Academy at the premium Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy venue—for owners, senior decision-makers, investors, and executives who make key decisions on large-scale projects.
The module focuses on the start of the Definition stage, when the decision to proceed with the program has already been made and design, team formation, and the development of execution plans begin.
Decisions made at this stage lay the foundations for the project’s costs, schedule, and how effectively it can be managed.
One of the session’s key questions: what should a senior decision-maker know and verify before the project moves into full-scale design and execution planning?
Together with Alexander Kutuzov, PME, an expert with more than 20 years of project management experience, participants will explore the stage’s key management questions:
- who is responsible for what at the Definition stage;
- what is required of the project manager and the owner’s team;
- whether the organization is ready to move into project-based work;
- which contracting strategy to choose and how to assess its risks;
- how to organize design management and incorporate future operational requirements;
- which information and decisions should underpin the management and execution plans;
- how to organize the management of changes, risks, and immediate actions.
This is neither an introductory project management course nor a conference.
The Academy is a substantive professional dialogue: short original presentations, anonymized real-world situations from large-scale projects, discussion of management decisions, and participant questions. There are no role-playing exercises or a single case study running throughout the session.
Session Creator and Facilitator —Alexander Kutuzov, PME, Founder of PM Expert and Senior Vice President of PM Excellence. He has more than 20 years of experience in managing large-scale projects, programs, and portfolios.
Participants will be able to compare the way their project is organized with the approaches discussed, identify which decisions are already well-founded, which require further supporting evidence, and where the senior decision-maker’s intervention is needed.
